My awesome sister, made me this super cute chalkboard for my birthday! I had been wanting to make a chalkboard for a long time, but just hadn't gotten around to it yet.
She found the frame at a thrift store for around $12 and just primed and painted it. Then she got a piece of sheet metal from Home Depot for around $10. She cut the sheet metal down to size and then primed it and painted it with chalkboard paint.
It is so cute! I absolutely love it. I made a little banner to go at the top, using my cricut. I hung the banner up using a couple magnets I had on our refrigerator. I would love to make or buy some other cute magnets to add to the chalkboard. I love that its magnetic.
I can't wait to decorate it for all the different holidays!
(P.S. Does anyone know a good way to clean a chalkboard. I've just been using a wet rag but is there a better way?)

I love it! It turned out soo cute!
It is a great gift and it contrasts well with your wall color too!
Thats super cute!
What a cute chalkboard! Your sister did a great job! I love the banner you made, too!
Love it! So just metal huh? I painted the wall with that stuff and put a frame up and hate it. My wall is really textured that it's near impossible to write in chalk there!
Ashlee did an awesome job. Is it hanging in your kitchen where the asian fan was on the wall? I think for the metal backing, you can just use Windex-- I think. I can't wait to see it in person. :)
Also... Friday night is going to be fun! It might be wet and rainy, but I think we are going to cook out. We haven't seen you guys in awhile, so we are excited!
What an awesome gift! Love it!
What an awesome gift! Sounds like it would be fairly easy to make.
Super cute!
That's awesome. And it's magnetic too? Even better.
Fun! Nice to have a crafty sister! I need to work on my craftiness.
A friend recently told me about cleaning her chalkboard wall with diet coke! She was selling her house, and the wall she had painted looked really dull, so she found that hint online and it worked! Who knew!
I've been to 4 Good-Will/consignment stores with no luck on find a cute frame like this one. I've been wanting to do this project for awhile now. Love yours, your sis did a great job!
