Jackson's 18 Month Post!

Wow!! A year and a half already! I know I say this every month, but the time sure is flying by.

Jackson had his 18 month check-up at the Dr. on Tuesday. He weighed 27 lbs. and 14 ozs. (75 -90%) and measured 34 1/4 inches tall (95%). The Dr. said he thinks Jackson will probably be at least 6 feet tall as an adult. Jake is right at 6 feet tall, so that makes sense. This appointment was a sad one. Jackson must have a great memory, because as soon as the nurse called us back to an exam room, he started crying. He cried while they weighed him, measured him, all throughout the exam and of course... during the 3 shots he had to have. It broke my heart. He even cried when I would just set him up on the exam table. I hope he forgets all this by his 2 year check-up, but somehow I don't think he will. :-(

Jackson's vocabulary is growing, slowly but surely. He seems a little more willing to try saying more words. Some new words this month are "dinosaur" (more like din"rawr"), "cheese" (for pictures), "oh toodles" while he holds up his hand to his mouth like they do on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, "hot dog" (as in the hot dog dance), "Brr" and he puts his arms around his shoulders, "choo choo" when you ask him what the train says, "shake shake shake" while shaking his body all around, "all done", "juice" for his sippy cup, "book", "boo boo", "uh oh" and "no no no" is becoming very popular too. :-) They aren't all clear, but he's trying. ☺

He knows a lot of animal sounds now and is willing to try new ones often. He knows the chicken, cow, dog, cat, dinosaur (rawr), lion (same as dinosaur ☺), birdie, monkey and elephant. My favorite is still the chicken. ☺

He knows where his nose, hands, belly, tickly toes, ears and tongue are.

He hasn't been eating all that great lately. Possibly due to the fact that he's had a cough and cold. The Dr. put him on an antibiotic this week because one of his ears had a little fluid in it. He seems to be feeling better and not coughing near as much, so I hope his appetite will pick up soon. His favorite foods/snacks are pizza, hot dogs, peas, waffles/french toast sticks, scrambled eggs, fish sticks, chicken nuggets, applesauce, pudding, teddy grahams and fruit snacks.

He still loves to watch his Disney Junior shows, preferably Mickey Mouse, Doc McStuffins, Sophia the First and Jake and the Neverland Pirates. :-) I can get a ton of house work done while he watches his shows. He is loving every chance we get to be outside! He just loves being able to run around in the back yard. He likes to swing, go down the slide and pick flowers. My sister and brother-in-law got him a 3 game sports set for Christmas. We put them all together last weekend and he's had fun playing with them on the days that its been warm. It has golf, t-ball and basketball.

Jackson has 15 teeth now. Here is a chart, showing what teeth he has.

I know I also say this every month, but we are having so much fun with him. He is such a funny little boy. He has such a sweet and silly personality. I just adore him beyond words. ♥

Throw Back Thursday {2006} - The time Jake and I drove half-way across the country

I thought I might try something new for Thursdays. I love the #tbt on instagram. I love looking at old pictures and thought it might be kind of fun to do something like this on the blog. My idea was to tell an old story with old pictures or talk about a trip I took before I started blogging. There are tons of pictures and events I haven't shared because they were before my blogging days. So I thought I'd start this off today and if it goes well, I may even try doing a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly link up, if others would be interested. Let me know what you think. :-)

Today I'm going to share a trip Jake and I took to visit his dad back in 2006. It was a wonderful trip, packed with tons of sight-seeing... a trip I will never forget.

Jake's dad lives in Phoenix, AZ and was a GM for a big Chevy Dealership down there at the time. This was before Jake and I were married, but we had been dating for several years and were very serious, in fact we got engaged later that year. Our main reason for taking this trip was to trade in my 2002 Oldsmobile Alero on a 2005 Pontiac Vibe. Jake's dad was able to get me a good deal. :-)

Jake was still taking college classes at the time, so we made this trip during his Spring Break. We drove the 22+ hour drive straight through. I had gone with Jake to visit his dad the year before, but we flew then. I was so excited to get to see all the landscape and drive through states I had never seen before. It was a long drive, I will admit that, but it was a fun drive.

By the time we made it there, we were exhausted. We were just ready to shower and go to sleep. Jake's dad had different plans. He was ready to take me straight to the dealership to get my new car. He's not one to argue with, so we said okay, showered and headed to the dealership.

After signing all the paperwork and trading in my old car, we headed back to Jake's dad's and got settled in. We spent the next couple days there just hanging out with Jake's dad, step-mom and Jake's 2 step-sisters and step-brother.

Jake played golf one day at TPC Scottsdale.

After hanging out in Phoenix for a few days, we headed out to California for a couple days. Jake had always wanted to take me down the Pacific Coast Highway. We left in the morning and drove about six hours to the coast.

The first place we stopped was Laguna Beach. This was when the show Laguna Beach and The O.C. were popular. I can remember calling my sister back home after seeing the road sign, so excited to be in Laguna Beach, Ha!!

After spending some time at Laguna Beach, we drove up the Pacific Coast Highway. It was such a beautiful drive!

We drove over to Balboa Island to look at the cute little houses there. So cool!

We made a stop in Santa Monica.

Our final destination that night was in Valencia, CA. We were going to Six Flags Magic Mountain the next day, so we stayed right near there that night. Jake had been to Magic Mountain many times with his Dad and had wanted to take me there. We love amusement parks and had a great time there. We met up with Jake's old room mate from his first year at Mizzou. He had transferred out to USC for his Sophomore year.

After spending all day at Magic Mountain, we made the drive back to Phoenix. This was not a smart move on our part as we were so tired. This was probably the most tired I have ever been, aside from 20 hours of labor. We were exhausted and once it got dark on the drive, we had a tough time staying awake. We did, what we probably never should have done and pulled over on the side of the road to catch a few hours of sleep so that we could make it the rest of the way. We were in the middle of nowhere, so we had no other choice. We survived, thankfully. :-)

We stayed another night in Phoenix and then made the long drive back to St. Louis. On the way, we decided to take a detour and visit the Grand Canyon! I had never seen it and Jake had only seen it once. It was breath taking! We also ate lunch at the Bright Angel Restaurant while we were there. I would love to go back someday and take a full vacation at the Grand Canyon sometime when our kids are old enough to appreciate it.

It was an amazing and beautiful trip! One I will cherish forever!

Outside Fun

The weather here is so wishy washy right now. Some days its sunny, warm and in the 70's, then other days (like today) its rainy and in the 40's. :-(

Monday was a beautiful day here in St. Louis. When I got home from work that day, Jake and Jackson were playing outside in the backyard. Jackson was having so much fun, so I went in and got my camera to snap a few photos. ☺

Jackson loves picking flowers, (usually dandelions) and bringing them to me. ☺ I must say, I love it too.

He's learned how to go up the ladder to the slide on our play set.  He does really well, we just have to stand behind him in case he would fall.

We are all really looking forward to the warmer weather getting here for good... especially Jackson!

Project Life 2012 - Week 13

It's been a few weeks since I've worked on my 2012 Project Life Album. I thought I better make some time for it, so I worked on a page this week. ☺ Week 13 of 2012 was a busy week with lots of pictures. Usually those are hard for me, but I had a lot of fun with this one.☺

For this layout, I used the Bloom and Grow Mini Kit from Word Art World.

Finish the Sentence Link-Up

I'm linking up with my good friend Holly for her and Jake's "Finish the Sentence Link-Up".

button

1. I laughed so hard I cried when... I watched this video!! It is hysterical.

2. My high school... years are a distant memory and I am rather happy about that.

3. It really pisses me off... when people are cruel to animals or children.

4. In ten years... I will be 42! Yikes, that just seems crazy to think about.

5. If I could erase one thing... it would be dating a boyfriend I had in high school. He was a "bad boy" and I just wish I would have been a little smarter.

6. In 1999... I graduated high school and later that fall, started college at SIUE.

7. Honestly... I am starting to get baby fever again. ☺ I just wish I could have the baby without the pregnancy and delivery/c-section. Ha.

8. To me, Sushi... is not something I've ever tried and don't really think I'd like.

9. Someone really needs to invent... an easier and quicker way to lose weight that actually works.

10. The first time I drank alcohol... I don't really remember the first time, but I think it was just a wine cooler.

11. The one question I would ask God is... why Adam and Eve had to eat the dang fruit.

12. Lindsay Lohan...is sad. I feel bad for her. Hollywood had such a negative impact on her.

My New {Magnetic} Chalkboard!

My awesome sister, made me this super cute chalkboard for my birthday! I had been wanting to make a chalkboard for a long time, but just hadn't gotten around to it yet.

She found the frame at a thrift store for around $12 and just primed and painted it. Then she got a piece of sheet metal from Home Depot for around $10. She cut the sheet metal down to size and then primed it and painted it with chalkboard paint.

It is so cute! I absolutely love it. I made a little banner to go at the top, using my cricut. I hung the banner up using a couple magnets I had on our refrigerator. I would love to make or buy some other cute magnets to add to the chalkboard. I love that its magnetic.

I can't wait to decorate it for all the different holidays!

(P.S. Does anyone know a good way to clean a chalkboard. I've just been using a wet rag but is there a better way?)
