We are wanting an SUV that gets good gas mileage. I drive around 30-45 minutes to work and back every day, so gas mileage is important to us. I also want slightly more space than what I have now with my Pontiac Vibe.
We've test driven 8 SUV's.
Kia Sportage: 22/32 mpg
Kia Sorento: 21/29 mpg
Mazda CX-5: 26/35 mpg
GMC Terrain: 22/32 mpg
Honda CRV: 23/31 mpg
Chevy Equinox 22/32 mpg
Hyundai Tucson 22/30 mpg
Ford Escape 22/31 mpg
There were certain things I liked about all of them, so its so hard to make a decision.
So in the next few weeks we have to make a decision on which car will work best for us. I would love any reviews you all might have. We can use all the help we get as we want to make a good decision.

Have you noticed that SUVs are slowly looking more and more like old station wagons?
we just bought a Ford Edge and i am in love! My sister has the Ford Escape and loves hers as well. We both went from Jeep Cherokees to Ford and couldn't be happier. I've heard great things about the Kia's and Honda CRV's as well. I liked the CRV's but didn't feel as though the trunk/back space was big enough for our stroller and dog! Good luck with your car shopping...excited to see what you pick!
I'm a Ford girl so I'd go with anything Ford. Unfortunately our Explorer is having transmission issues too. How NOT fun is that?! Good luck!
We were dead set on an equinox but then decided to go big with the traverse. For us, the equinox had everything we were looking for, but we liked the space of the traverse. Good luck!
I've also heard great things about the Kia Sorrento.
Oh I just like them all. I'm so jealous you're car shopping. My old wagon has 210,000 miles.
My only advice... I had a Ford Escape all through college and it gave me nothing but problems.
We are car shopping off and on as well. I am crazy dorky and made a spreadsheet with most every single car you listed and broke it out pretty specifically, I can email it to you, if you want?
If I can give you any advice it is to buy Honda or Toyota. They are the best. I bought a Ford Edge last year and I have only about 15,000 miles on it and it has electrical problems. The dealer is currently buying it back as a lemon. This is my first and last Ford. And whatever you do make sure to buy something that has everything you want and keep in mind that you may want to have more children so get something with plenty of room.
So, which car did you choose among the 8 SUVs that you test drove? If you want an SUV with really good gas mileage, I suggest the Ford Escape Hybrid. It has also a good score on safety tests, so you don’t have to worry much while you're on the road.
