Kidney Stones and Jackson's 5 Months Old today!

Sunday evening I ended up in the Emergency Room with a Kidney Stone. OUCH!! This was my second kidney stone. The first kidney stone I had was a long time ago, back when I was in junior high.

It started while we were at my Aunt and Uncle's house Sunday evening. My mom, sister, my sister's 2 boys and Jackson and I had went to their house for a visit Sunday afternoon.

The pain came on gradually, so I didn't even suspect a kidney stone at first. My stomach started hurting while we were there and by the time we left my back and side were hurting pretty bad on the left side. While we were on our way home, the pain started becoming unbearable and when my sister stopped for gas I got out of the car to try and walk to see if that would help. Nothing was helping at this point and I was starting to really feel sick to my stomach. She and my mom thought it would probably be best if we went to the ER, suspecting it might be another kidney stone because of where the pain was.

On the way to the ER, my sister called my husband who had been golfing with my dad and BIL that day. Thankfully they were done and on their way home. They got to the ER right after we did. Once we were there, they checked me in and got me back to a room in about 20 minutes or so. It seemed like an eternity though. Once they got me back into a room the waiting took even longer. The nurse I was supposed to have, was busy, so I ended up with a nurse that liked to take her Gosh Darn Time!!

By this point I could not sit still. I was in SO much pain!! I honestly would take the 20 hours of labor and a C-Section I had with Jackson, as opposed to having a kidney stone!

Jake was in the room with me and about ready to go ask the nurse if he could help with anything to help move the process along, but she then showed up with the goods!! She put an IV in and then gave me the pain medicine through the IV to get it to work faster! It was working within 5 minutes and I had complete relief in probably 15 to 20 minutes. I still felt a little nauseous afterwards, but I never did throw up, Thank Goodness!

They did a scan of my kidney and a couple hours later the Dr. came in and finally told me I did in fact have a Kidney Stone. She said it had likely passed into my bladder by now since they had given me some fluids and I probably wouldn't feel anymore pain. They did prescribe me some Vicodin in case, but I only took it once, right before going to bed that night.

The Dr. said the cause of the stone was probably due to dehydration and that I needed to drink more fluids. I had been dehydrated with the stomach flu a couple weeks ago, so I'm thinking that possibly brought it on. So I'm now trying to drink more water. Unfortunately, I don't normally drink much throughout the day. I usually only drink something when I eat. Not good!

So yesterday I just spent the day resting. We had been at the hospital from around 6:30 til about 11:00. My muscles were a little sore the next day from being so tense and I was just tired from the pain medication. Thankfully I never felt any more pain, other than my stomach still not feeling too good.

Today, I'm feeling much better and am back to work. The Dr. at the ER just wanted me to follow up with my primary Dr. in the next couple days, so I need to call and make an appt. for that today.

Thankfully my parents were able to keep Jackson through all of this and we picked him up yesterday! He was too young to know what was going on and I am glad about that.

♥ On a lighter note, Jackson is 5 months old today! I can't believe he's 5 months old already. It seems like I just had him yesterday! Happy 5 month old birthday to my sweet sweet boy!

So very glad you are feeling better! Unfortunately I've had the experience of a kidney stone in the past. Probably the worst pain I've ever experienced.

Happy 5 months to little Jackson :)
