Explore St. Louis: Watson Trail Park

I first discovered Watson Trail Park last Winter as I was driving to our new house while we were still just working on it. I wasn't very familiar with the part of town we moved to and I was excited (and still am) to find fun places close to home. The trees had no leaves so it was easier to see from the main road. I decided to drive by it to get a better look and noticed there was a fishing pond and bridge with walking trails and a playground. I thought it would be a great place to take the kids this Spring. It's less than 5 minutes from our house, so that makes it even better.

So when I decided to take some pictures of them together, I thought this would be a good and close place to go. It ended up being a perfect place with such pretty flowers and trails. Of course the kids had one thing on their mind... the playground! So that was my bribe, sit nice for your pictures and we'll play on the playground. ;-)

So after our little photo session, I let them play on the playground and they loved it! Jackson said it was the best playground ever! Ha.

Here are a few pictures on the trail and around the pond.

After our little walk around the pond, we headed up to the playground.

Evening Scavenger Hunt with the Kiddos

One of my favorite bloggers, Sara from Running From the Law posted this scavenger hunt over a year ago on her blog. I thought it was such a fun idea so I saved it on Pinterest with intentions of trying it with Jackson last Summer but we never did get around to doing it.

So Monday, I ran across it again and thought we would take time after dinner to try it out. I think we all had a lot of fun with it and found a majority of the items on the list. Avery got into it too, although she didn't fully understand the concept like Jackson did. What we could pick up and put in our bucket, we did. However, some of the items weren't things you could put in a bucket, so I tried to take pictures of those items.

Here are a few pictures from our fun little hunt.

Pine-cone

Clouds

Mailbox and Stop-Sign

Fire-Hydrant

Flag

Daisies were on the list, but we didn't see any actual daisies. So I took a picture of this pretty yellow flower we saw along our walk.

Ivy and light post.

This was a double because we needed to find a pink flower and an ant. ;-)

Moss

Bricks

Robin

Feather

One of the items was a butterfly. We never did find one, but Avery happened to have one on her shirt! ;-)

Cardinal

The rest of the treasures we found!

We had so much fun with this and may try again another day to see what else we can find! We were able to find a majority of the items in our own yard.

All About Avery

Now that Avery's 2 and has had her 2 year check up at the doctor, I thought I'd do a little update on how Avery is doing at 2. :-)

Age:
Two!

Size:
26 pounds

Clothing:
24 Months/2T

Shoe Size:
Six

Diapers:
Still in size 4

Teeth:
You haven't gotten any new teeth that I know of. I believe you're still at 16 teeth.

Hair/Eyes:
Your hair is getting lighter with the Summer sun but it's still a light brown and you have such beautiful curls. You're getting your first little hair cut in 2 weeks just to get it shaped up a little bit.

Your eyes are a beautiful brown, just like your Daddy's.

Sleep:
You HATE to go to sleep, but once you do, you are a great sleeper. You generally sleep through the whole night from about 9:00 at night until around 8:00 the next morning. You take one nap in the afternoon that lasts around 2 hours.

Eat:
You are a really great eater. You eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Some of your favorites are apples, carrots and corn. You also love sweets and you never pass up a french fry. Ha. You love to eat though and eat quite a bit at meals and throughout the day.

Favorite Toys:
You love baby dolls, your kitchen and your princess castle, but you also like playing with anything Jackson is playing with. You don't mind playing with cars, trucks and trains. :-) You love to be outside playing. You'd spend all day outside and are always sad to have to come inside. Like most 2 year olds, you have lots of energy, so you love to run around and play outside.

Milestones:
You started gymnastics class right after you turned two and it's really helping you to learn how to wait in line and take turns. You'll need these skills for when you start Pre-school this Fall. We've had you and your brother on the waiting list for Lindbergh Early Childhood Education ever since we closed on the new house and we finally got an e-mail saying you will be going there in the Fall. You are going on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and you'll be in the Butterfly class!! I'm really excited for you.

Vocalizing:
You are talking up a storm. We can hold whole conversations with you now, which is really great! You say all kinds of hilarious things and you are so smart! You amaze me all the time with how much you know.

Personality:
You have such a personality! I don't know where you get it but it's just too cute! You are quite the out-going and talkative girl. You tell everyone you see in stores and at restaurants, "hi!" When I took you to the doctor a week or so ago for your check-up, you greeted everyone who came in the door with a "hi!" You can be shy at times, but for the most part you are pretty out-going and make friends easily. I hope this continues! You're stubborn and independent. You march to the beat of your own drum. You want to do everything for yourself and think you are much bigger than you are. You're also very sweet and polite. You always say "please" and  "thank you" and "you're welcome" and even say "bless you" when any of us sneeze. You are sweet and check to make sure we're okay if one of us gets hurt. You are still a Momma's girl and generally choose me over anyone else. My 2 favorite times of day with you are when I first get home from work and you come running to greet me and give me a big squeeze and when I'm putting you down for bed and we read stories and sing songs together. You're so sweet and snuggly.

Likes:
Max (or as you call him Maxi) our dog. You give him hugs and kisses and say "I love it" You love your "Maxi MooMoo"!
Corn/Carrots
Cookies
Paw Patrol
Minnie Mouse
Chips
Swinging at the Park
Playing Outside
Bracelets and Necklaces
Chapstick
Shoes
Cupcakes (or as you call them "cut-cakes")
Babies
Cats
Baths
Going for wagon rides

Dislikes:
Hunter (Our dog who won't leave you alone when you have food and chews up your toys)
Going to bed
Diaper Changes
Getting in your car-seat

So that's you at two Avery Rose. You brighten our days and are just so much fun! You're a perfect combination of sweet and sassy and I absolutely adore you! We love you to the moon and back Avery!

Love,
Mommy - xoxo

Planting Sunflower Seeds

For Easter, I put a little sunflower kit in Jackson's basket. He had been saying he wanted to plant some sunflowers, so I thought it would be perfect. We didn't end up using the tiny pot that came with it because it was just too small and you couldn't fit very many seeds in it. So I got a bigger pot to start them out in. We planted them a couple weeks ago and they've already popped up. He and Avery had a lot of fun planting them, so I took a few pictures. ;-)

And here they are about 2 weeks later. Something seems to be eating them, unfortunately. Any ideas on what that would be and how to get them to stop??

122-151 of 365

I can't believe it's already the first day of June! The kids are all out of school, the pools are all open and the warm temperatures are seemingly here to stay for a while. I do believe Summer has begun!! Yay!

We had a great month of May though. I feel like I blinked and it was gone!

I started off the month with a trip to the Vintage Market Days with my mom and sister which is always so much fun! We also took a morning trip to the zoo, had a couple nights out on the patio with a fire, watched Jackson play soccer and t-ball, celebrated Mother's Day and Avery started her new little gymnastics class!

We also took a trip to Laumeier Sculpture Park, painted the back and one side of the house (only 1 more side to go and we'll be done), we had our first little hummingbird show up to our feeder and we took several trips to other parks close to our house! We planted sunflower seeds, went to see Angry Birds at the movie theater and celebrated Memorial Day!

It really was a great month full of fun!
