Carnival Cruise/New Orleans 2019: Day 7

We had to be off the ship at around 8:30 Thursday morning, so after getting all of our luggage and going through Customs and all of that to get off the ship, we made our way to get our cars, and our first stop was down in the French Quarter.

We had never been to New Orleans, so I was excited to see it. The only downfall was it was around 35 degrees when we stepped off the ship and it didn't really warm up much that day. It was breezy and chilly which was not ideal for walking around the city outside, but we tried to make the best of it. We first stopped at Café Du Monde for some beignets and they were SO delicious!

After that, we walked over to Jackson Square to see the St. Louis Cathedral, which was really beautiful.

I had to get a picture of Jackson in Jackson Square. ;-)

After coming out of the St. Louis Cathedral, we walked over to the riverfront to see the Mississippi River from a different vantage point than what we're used to seeing it in St. Louis.

It was quite chilly over by the River and we were all freezing, so we decided to go find a place to eat lunch so we could be inside for a while. We ended up having a very yummy meal at the French Market Restaurant. I wasn't overly hungry since we had just eaten Beignets not that long before this, so I just got a cup of Jambalaya and it was SO good! I also tried some Fried Green Tomatoes that our friend Jim had gotten and we also tried Etouffee, which wasn't something I'd order but wasn't too bad and I'm glad I tried it. I'm not a very adventurous eater, but I do like to try new things when someone else orders it. Ha.

After a nice, long lunch, we headed back outside into the cold and made our way over to Bourbon Street. We went into many little shops along the way, and I loved seeing all the cool architecture. We didn't end up spending too much time on Bourbon Street because there was a lot of construction and many of the places on Bourbon Street weren't necessarily "kid friendly". There were also tons of Panhandlers, so we had to keep hold of the kids at all times there, which made it a little stressful.

Avery loved trying on all the masks at the different shops.

After a little while on Bourbon Street, we all decided to walk back to our cars and head to our hotel/rental house. Jake and I and our kids had booked a room at the Hotel Monteleone for the night since we were only staying one night in New Orleans. The rest of our group were staying two nights, so they all booked a rental house together, right outside of the city.

The Hotel Monteleone was gorgeous. Such a cool hotel.

Our room at the hotel.

The view from our room.

After getting a few things unpacked, we decided to check out the rest of the hotel. This is the view from the top floor where the roof-top pool is.

I wish I could have gotten a better picture of this sign on the roof, but was never able to see it from anywhere we were down in the city.

A little later that evening, we drove over to the rental house that everyone else was staying in and our friend Jim fixed us all his yummy stuffed pasta that he's made for us before when we've visited him in Phoenix. It was very good, as usual and we had a great rest of the evening together.

When we got back to our hotel that night, I took a picture of the city at night from our room. We were right down in the French Quarter, which was so cool. We actually fell asleep listening to a trumpet player playing outside that we could hear all the way up on the 11th floor. The Hotel Monteleone is on Royal Street, which is only one street over from Bourbon Street. Such a cool place to stay, I highly recommend it.

We had such a fun first day in New Orleans. I'll be wrapping up our trip posts tomorrow with our last day in New Orleans.

Carnival Cruise/New Orleans 2019: Day 6

Wednesday was our last full day on the cruise. We were headed back to New Orleans and spent the whole day at sea. We had brunch in the dining room that morning, which was always really good.

They were having a towel animal puppet show that morning as well, so as soon as Avery and Bella were done eating, I walked them down to the theater so they could watch it. It was cute and they were able to sit right on stage to watch! I went back to our table for brunch and we finished up just as the puppet show was over.

After brunch we went and put our swimsuits on and then went out to the pool deck to relax for a little while.

I took Avery to get some ice-cream (imagine that, ha) and we ran into this cute towel animal. :-)

At 2:00 that afternoon they were having a Bingo game in the theater and a few of us had bought Bingo cards earlier that morning to play. Avery decided she'd like to go to camp while we played Bingo, so we got dressed and then dropped her off at camp before heading to the theater to play Bingo.

After Bingo, we went and picked up Avery from camp and wanted to take the kids up to the front of the ship on a deck we had found the night before. Unfortunately, by this time it was cloudy and windy because a storm was starting to blow in. We went out there anyways and it was cool to see the storm blow in, though Avery was a little scared of the thunder. :-(

I dressed the kids in their "anchor" outfits that I had brought along for that day and had hoped to get a better picture than this, but the weather conditions were not great and they were not enthusiast to take a picture so this was the best I could get. Ha!

That night we had dinner in the dining room and we all dressed up for a family picture. None of the pictures turned out very good so we didn't buy them. I wish we would have just taken a picture ourselves with my camera, but we didn't think to do that. Oh well. We still had a nice last dinner on the Carnival Triumph.

After dinner, Jackson and Ethan went to watch a movie out by the pool and the rest of us went to see a show in the theater. It was music and dancing with a New Orleans theme, and since we were going to be spending the next two days in New Orleans, it was fun to see the show.

We called it a night soon after the show. We had packing to do and had to be up early the next morning. We had such a great last day on the cruise!

Five on Friday

Happy Friday

One
I've been blogging all this week about our Carnival Cruise. Check out my posts here if you'd like to follow along. :-)

Two
This past weekend we had some very seasonably warm weather. Last Wednesday it was -4 with wind chills at -25 and then on Sunday it was 67 degrees and sunny! Today, it was 13 when I left for work. St. Louis weather is so weird! Anyways, we took advantage of the warmer temperatures and played outside as much as possible. Jake and our neighbor John took the kids on the Katy Trail for a bike ride! They had a lot of fun!

 Three
Earlier this week I snapped this picture of Jackson and Avery in a sweet moment sharing the iPad. They have their moments of fighting and bickering, but they can be so sweet to each other too!

 Four
Tuesday night's Avery has dance class and she is doing so well. She just loves it. I was trying to talk her into changing when we got home to put her jammies on, but she was quite happy wearing her dance clothes to play in her room for a little while before bed. She's such a girly girl.

Five
Jackson's school had "Wacky Wednesday" on Wednesday this week. They were supposed to dress wacky and he and I came up with this look! He wore his hair spiked up, shorts over his pants, mis-matched clothes, long socks over his pants and then 2 different shoes. I love themed days at school. They're always so fun.

Have a great weekend!!
