Big Boy Bed!

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, then you probably already know we are three nights in to Jackson sleeping in his "Big Boy Bed" and he's doing great!

One morning last week, my mom called and said "You'll never believe what your son just did"! She proceeded to tell me that he had somehow climbed out of his crib and opened his bedroom door all by himself. She said she heard a door open in the kitchen/hallway and when she went to check it out, Jackson was standing at the gate in his bedroom doorway!!

Needless to say, I was shocked! I had never even seen him attempt to try to climb out of his crib, so I couldn't believe he made it all the way out. Thankfully he didn't get hurt. My mom didn't even hear him climb out.

The only way I can think that he did climb out without getting hurt, was that he climbed up onto his changing table and then got down onto his diaper pail and then onto the floor. My mom said he had pulled his noise machine down off the window sill, so I'm assuming this was his method of escape. Crazy Boy!!

So I went right to the store that afternoon and got a guard rail to attach to his "big boy bed" in case he would move around while asleep and fall out. His crib can be converted into a toddler bed, so I took the front portion of the crib off and then added the little guard rail.

I have to say, I was very nervous that he would know that he could just get down when we put him to bed and wouldn't go to sleep so easily like he's been doing for so long. But much to my surprise, he went right to sleep the first night and when he woke up the next morning, he just cried for me to come get him, just as he would do in his crib. The second night, he went to bed just as easily, but my mom heard him awake in his room the next morning and he was at the door when she went to get him. So he has figured out he can get up. Last night he went to sleep great and was still sleeping this morning when I went to wake him up to drop him off at my Parents' house. Hopefully, he continues to go to bed just as easily and we can check this milestone off as a success!

(As you can see, he definitely needs that guard rail. He's a crazy sleeper.)

Our plan all along has been to use Jackson's crib for the new baby and buy Jackson a twin bed when we get closer to the new baby being born. I wasn't exactly planning on moving Jackson up quite this soon. However, I feel like converting the crib to a toddler bed for now is a good stepping stone for him to get used to not being in a crib anymore. This will get him ready for a bigger big boy bed in the near future. :-)
